With another summer about to end and fall approaching it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming heating season, if you haven’t already now is the time to schedule your furnace or boiler maintenance. Aside from the 15 to 21 point check we perform during the maintenance depending on the type of unit you have we can also provide you with a one year service plan that includes parts and labour and it’s as easy as calling
613 747 8454, keep in mind a furnace maintenance is more than just a cleaning it is also a safety check that can warn of future problems.
It would also be a good time to turn off the air conditioner for the winter by turning off the main breaker, some manufacturers recommend covering the top of the air conditioner with a board as a form of physical protection, in either case come spring time don’t forget to remove the air conditioner cover and turn on the power to the air conditioner at least 24 hours prior to starting it in order to warm the oil in the compressor a god reminder would be to tape a note in the hydro panel next to the breaker.
Getting back to your furnace now would be a good time to have a look at replacing or cleaning the filter, setting your humidifier damper to winter mode and adjusting the humidistat could be done at this time also. If you have a high efficiency furnace ensure the exterior vent terminations are clear and unobstructed, if your furnace is a mid or standard efficiency the air inlet screen of the combustion air should be cleaned.
If you have a heat recovery ventilator, HRV, the inlet screen of the outdoor termination should also be cleaned.
Till next time have a safe Ideal heating season.
